DEBATING.
Tlie third round of the debating contest for the Wanganui Literary and Debating Societies' • Union Shield will take place next Wednesday evening. Socialists have forfeited to T.Y.M.I (A), and St. Paul's to C.C.C., so the issue will be fought out by Baptists and T.Y.M.I. <B). The subject for debate is "That Party Government is the best conceivable, form of democratic Government," and this is to be affirmed by the Baptists (Messrs G. R. Marriner, G. Horsley, G. Fear, and R. L. Price). The T.Y.M.I. team is to consist of C. Taylor, W. Lee Martin, J. Brine, and M. Spurdle. Mr "W.-J. Treadwell'has consented to act as judge, and an interesting debate must eventuate. A large attendance of the - public is expected, the debate commencing. at 8 p.m. A:good deal rests on-this debate for if the Baptists win it places them in the final for the shield, while if the T.Y.M.I (B> manage to come off victorious' they will undoubtedly annex the shield. AH interested are invited to attend.
