" The Hon. G. Fowlds left Wellington for the South last night. The Hon. A. W. Hogg left Welling* ton for Auckland yesterday. He intends making a trip to Tauranga and Waihi districts. Thomas H/ Laby, of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, has been appointed Professor of ifhysics at Victoria, College, and Charles A. Cotton, at; present Director of Coromandel School ct Mines has been, appointed Lecturer in Geology at Victoria College. Little Quecnie Williams, considered; to bo the cleverest child actress on the Australasian stage, will make her first appearance this season in Wanganui in. tho character of Mrg "The Little.Breadwinner," in tho play of that name to bo staged by Meynell and Gunn's Company at the Opera House to-night. Tho resignation of the Ve:y lier. Fathe* A. Keogh, rector of St. Patrick's College, has been finally accep- ■ ted, but will not take effect till the1 snd of June. The duties of rector will then s be taken over by the Very Rev D. Kennedy, D.D., 8.A., 8.C.L., F.L.M.S., of Meanee, who is to ba replaced by the Very Rev Dean Smith,' of Hastings. The Very Rev Father Keogh will then .take over the duties of parish priest at Hastings. V r At tho Grand Hotel, Wellington, last evening, Mr T. H. Hamor, Undersecretary for Mines, who is about to go to England as Auditor in the High Commissioner's office, and Mr T. EDonne, head of the Tourist Department, who w^ll b3. in charge of, the Commercial Department of the High Com- . missioner's office, were entertained by the Ministry in tokenof farewell. Advantage was taken of the occasion to bid. farewell to jthqse heads of depart-^i ments who have, lately been retired.
