CHRIST CHURCH CLUB.

Tho following is a summarised report of tho above club to be presented at the half-yearly mooting on Monday next, at 7.30, in the Christ Church Schoolroom :—

Mr Chairman and Gentlemen, — We have much pleasure in presenting the half-yearly report for season ending ending August 31st, 1908, and muit congratulate the club on the position it now holds. The membership has increased wonderfully/nearly 60 members having been elected in the last six months Several new branches have been formed and have proved a great success. Owing to tho heavy cxpendituro we have a slight debit balance, but considering the assets we are in a very good financial position. We have had a full sized billiard table installed in the club-room at a cost of about £120 During the last 6ix months only three cases of misbehaviour have been reported. The committee hacTto resort to severe measure by expelling one member from the club. We will just touch briefly with the different branches, touching upon firstly the most important object—the religious side of the-ilub. BIBLE CLASS.—This is the rcost important branch of the club, yet it does not receive the support from the members that it should. We must bear in mind that wo are a Church Club. At present there are, only 25 names on the Bible-class roll, while the club membership is over 150. It is the duty of every member to attend this" class as often. as pissible. A syallbus has been printed and some very interesting discussions are held of a Sunday afternoon. Great credit is due to the Rev Jacob and Mr Armitage, for the time and work they are putting into this work. A club and men's eervica is held every quarter, and have been well attended by the member?. The Vestry have kindly placed a pow at our disposal, and this is well filled on Sunday nights. SOCIAL.—Two progressive euchre parties have been held during the season,, and have proved great succe?scs. The annual dance to b^ held on August 16th promises to eclipss all former dances held by the club. PHYSICAL.—The thanks of the club are diie to the Vestry for the expense they have incurred in renovating the Sunday Schoolroom, and allowing us to use it for skating and gymnastic purposes. Although the attendance-at tho "gym." is not so large as could be expected, and it being started so late in the season, we have great hopes of it being one of our greatest attractions next winter. We need some extra plant but the committed have decided to wait until next "ear.

SKATING. — Members • who have skates are making pood use of the room. As there is no other skatino; rink in Wanganui this branch could be made a very prosperous one. HOCKEY.—This year the club colours are again. to be seen in the hockey field. Although we have finished very low in both the Thursday and Saturday competitions, still the experience gained will be a great helo to us next year. The thanks of the club are due to Mr Bannister, who kindly acted as coach and captained the Saturday team. BILLIARDS;—The billiard table has justified its existence, as this game is a great attraction to members. A billiard tourney is now progressing, and some very interesting games have been payed.

Cards, draughts, ping pong, etc, have loceived their fair shaio of support, although no tourneys have been neld.

DEBATING.—Owing to the union debates, club debates have suffered somewhat this year, only about three debates have been held. The club is represents in Iho union by Messrs Hog£, C. Newoombo, H. Davies, L. Gooch and L. MacCarthy. Up to tho present time we /< liaye ( Ipnje^jvin.Jan.d, cmo^ defeat, sbu't stillvhavo greaV*Ko^"c«s»bpes? of winning the coveted sheild.

\ LIBRARY.— We wish to thank Mr aiid Mr Short for o£ "'tnagazidta'and books to th 6 lib'ary. #ho library "has 'h good Rplection of "books and tn^ieazmeg, and gifts for this branch would be thankfully received.

THANKS—The club wish to thank thank the ladies committee—consisting of Mesdames Not man, Harrison. Misses L.j.ajn.d F. _Notman, Hedditch, Williams arirl" Pafker; also the "Chronicle" and "Herald," Mr Levien for music, etc.,' al^jojth,^.Churchwardens and Vestry, ana-those who have helped to make the club a successful institution.

In conclusion we urge upon tho members the necessity for united action. It is thi drf^y of every member to help tho committee to carry out the working ond obiccts of the club. " We have great hopes of a very successful season fojvihe Athletic 'and^Swimminw Glubs'." So,' members, do* your best for"' the Christ Church Club,.,_, an,<l make it a t leading factor in Wancarmi for' t^o religloiis, mental, ini,^ll,e,ctuar phy^ieab>social and moTal welfare of its bor^ —I am, for the Committee, your obedient iser.va.ht.
