AUCKLAND, September 3.
The Auckland Slaughtermen's Union passed resolutions complimenting the Minister for Labour on the Arbitration Act Amendment Bill arid expressing satisfaction with the administration of the Arbitration Court under Judge Sim and disapproval of the Wellington bakers' strike, as being ill-advised and unjustified, and expressed a determination to support the Government in the administration of the labour laws in fairness to all concerned or in their repeal. The Union urges more temperate allegiance to these laws and their "administration. ~ " .
WELLINGTON, Sept. 3
In consequence of a statement being made at Mr. McLean's political meeting that the Premier had appointed one of his sons to the public service, Sir Joseph Ward has written to (Mr. McLean denying the allegation, and asking Mr. McLean to state at his. next meeting that none of his sons had been appointed, to Government positions, nor had any of them received money from the Government for any service.
PAHIATUA, September 3
Mr. Short, the Commissioner appointed by the Government to inquire and report as to the proportionate amounts to be paid by the Woodville Borough Council, Woodville Caunty ■Council, and the Pahiatua County Council towards tho cost of reconstructing the bridge on the Ballance Gorge Road and maintenance thereof, sat. here throughout the whole of yesterday taking evidence. At the close of the evidence the Commissioner, who had' previously expressed an ooinion that the claim against the Woodville County was exceedingly weak, said he would report soon, and the result would be .known before many weeks were over.
