WELLINGTON, September 1. A case of importance to the travelling public was decided by Mr McArthur, S.M., to-day, when Paul Kennedy secured judgment J»r £2 10s against the Union Company for loss of a travelling rug. Plaintiff was travelling in the Maitai from Sydney, and lost his rug. It was recovered by tho second steward, who told him it was not safe to leave rugs in the smoke room, and ho suggested that the rug should be left in the entrance to the social hall. Plaintiff did this, but the rug disappeared.
The Magistrate held as plaintiff did as he was directed by the defendant company's servants, there was no default or negligence on his part, and he gava judgment against the company..
