The Ranfurly Shield-match, played here---to-day between the reps, of the Auckland -and Taranaki Unions j was won ;by Auckland by 9 points to nil. There was an attendance^; of . about 8000, and.the weather, .though fine^was chilly, "with a heavy - wind} during .the first spell, .blawtng : downfield. Auckland had. ; ihe»b3st ;of-the luck, for after playing with the wind in the first spell it 'dropped to ,a breeze when they had to' face it. Aucklan'd's pace again demonstrated its superiority,? and rendered^ thet efforts .of the Taranaki backs to operfup play resultless. In the first spell Gillett kicked a penalty goal and scored a try. In the second spell Murfey: scored a try after a very clever piece of back play between . Wilson. ijJoli^ston, and himself. A great deal of uninteresting. Auckland's |p%||?\at times keeping the play very yg^OEjftsrv Mr J. Williams, of Dunedin, a very capable referee.
