AUCKLAND, August 22. Auckland defeated Thames by five goals to nil in their fifth challenge match for the New Zealand Hockey Association championship shield at Rimuera on Saturday. Tho Auckland team gave a first display. Mason, who was well fed by his supports, notched 4 goals, while Barry obtained the other. An unprecedented interest is being displayed in tho Wellington—Auckland hockey shield match, which will be played at yktoria, Park on September sth, and, provided the weather be fino, a record attendance for a hockey match in New Zealand is assured. Auckland are -sparing no efforts to retain the trophy.
