FIRES.
(Per Pre&3 Association.) NELSON, August 10. This forenoon a six-roomed' house on Waimea Road,,owned and occupied by W. Kirby, carrier, was completely destroyed by fire, the water pressure being quite inadequate; The fire was/du^'- to a kapoo mattress placed before. thprfifd to dry catching alight. An old-b«;cl^rid-den woman, Mrs. Batey, Mrs. Kirby's mother, was rescued by a neighbour when the room was full of emoko and flame, and had a narrow escape. Insurances—£2so on the house in the Imperial, £100 on tho furniture and £45 on the piano in the Norwich Union. The losses over insurance are considerable
INVERCARGILL, August 10. A six-roomed house owned by Lennie and Sons, and occupied by Mr. Devolsky,, was gutited by firo this morning. The houseswas insured in the National Omco for £150,. and the furniture for £100. Most of tho latter was saved.
