MARTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Cm-respondent). With reference to the block on the Hunterville line'on Friday night, it appears the statement that the passengers walked back to Marton is not true. They were brought back by train, and comfortably housed at the Junction, - 3ind the local staff did all^ they could to minimise the disoomforT of the oc•oasion. A gang of men were'busy all day yesterday and Monday getting the trucks and goods van on to the line. The work of raising and replacing the -engine on the line is still progressing. Had Fireman Parkes not- been prompt in applying the brakes when sighting -the slip a far more serious datastroph© would have-baen chronicled.
An alarm of fire was sounded on Sunday morning, when it was found that Mr. Blair's house, in Wellington road, "was on fire. Fortunately, assistance "was at hand, anid thi© flames were soon -extinguished. A defective chirrmeiy seems to have been the clause, as the fire broke ■out upstairs under the hearth. Not ■iiiiuch damage was done.
