DUNE'DIN, July 13. A sitting of the Assessment Court for the Tokomairiro district was held to-day, in which a good deal of interest was taken, many farmers taking strong exception to the Government valuations. Originally oO objections were put in, but in half these 'Compromises were arrived at, 'and in otheiv> the objections were not supported. (No settlement Mas arrived at in six cases. After hearing evidence tho Court reduced the valuation in these six cases. One, howevr, i.s .subejet to the condition that the Court had power to do so". The. farm in tin's en so was leased by a mother to her son, wilio paid rent wdiich supported the Department's valuation. Counsel contended that the valuation luul to be fixed according to evideuce and not according to rental.
