THE TRADES MARK BILL.

United Press Association.—Copyright,

Received December .1, 10.36 p.m

MELBOURNE, Deoember 1

The debate upon the Union Label clause in the Trades iMark Bill was continued throughout th© night, and till 4 o'clock this afternoon, when the House adjourned to allow members to oatch week-end trains. Under arrangement oh© third reading of the Bill will be taken on Tuesday. The debate was chiefly a steady stream of opposing argu. ment against th© lalbel principal. The grounds were that it was legislation for the bene»fit of a few against the many, and would create strife between Unionists and non-Unionists, which would extend to the general community, and cause iboycotting. The speeches were largely a repetition of those delivered when the. Bill -was previously before the House. There were a few lively exchanges. . The Government wore accused of pushing and bludgeoning the Bill through. Mr Watson, replying ... to criticisms, said the principle he went on was to give protection to every man, whether .a Unionist or a non-Unionist,, employer or employee. The label would benefit the whole community, and there was* not the slightest chance of it being applied to rural industries. With regard to the cry of boycott, there had been many boycotts in Australia' before the Union label, and they -would go on whether there was a label or not.
