WANGAEHU SCHOOL CONCERT.

That this annual entertainment is a popular ona may be judged from the fact that notwithstanding the weather (which was decidedly damp), the new schoolhouso presented a very lively scene on Tuesday night last. The school, which is, built alongside the old one. is n well-ventilated and up-to-date building. Mr. A. E. Remington, member ioi' the district, occupied the chair, and way supported by Messrs. Sam Woon and Fletcher (School Committee). Mr. Fletcher,, in a few words, expressed the pleasuro it gave him to see so many present, and introduced Mr. Remington, who, ho said, had been instrumental, with Mr. Wc-cn and himself, in getting tho new school. Mi. Remington, who was loudly applauded, said that ho was very proud to bo present that evening, and complimented the School Committee and tho people of Wangaehu on their fine new building

Tho programme was as follows: — Songs by Mesdames Davy and Misses Ritr. Comyns, Faivley, Walker, Blythe, Roberts and Spriggens, and Messrs. McGregor and Hami:; pianoforte solo by Miss Crawshaw; pianoforto duet by Miss Eileen and Master Claude Comyns; recitations by Miss Annio Smith and Master Puslow Fletcher; two poi dances by eight young native girls from the Turakina Maori Girls' College werq heartily encored. Selection?; wero given on the phonograph by Mr. T. H. James. A haka by the school boys, led by Mr. Sam "Woon, simply brought down tho house. The concert ended with the singing of the National Anthem. Refreshment?! were then handed round, and tho floor was cleared for dancing, which was kept up till an early hour in tho morning. On leaving, hearty cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher, and Messrs. Woon and Remington. Too much praise cannot bo given the Ladies' Committee, who gavo such splendid refreshments. Tho music for the dance was supplied by Mrs. Lockett, and was, as ri&ual, much enjoyed. This lady played most of the accompaniments during the evening. We trust the prize fund will ba larger than ever this year.
