The Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, arrived yesterday afternoon from Napier. He will preside at the sittings of the Supreme Court, which opens at the Courthouse at 11 o'clock this morning.
The Hon. T. K. Macdonald was in town yesterday. M:s3 Gertrude Pitt, who for the last two yeaafs has been a member of the office staff of. the " Herald," was presented yester&ay af^encoa with a greenstone and gold brooch and a bangle, as a parting gift from her fellow employees on* (the occasion of her departure for Auckland.
