FIENDISH CRUELTY TO A CAT

CHRISTCHURCH, September 5. At a meeting of tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty' to Animals last night the Inspector reported a case of horriblo cruelty on the part of a youth who had placed a cat in a box oovered with'-wiro netting, and had speared the animal several times with the sharp end of a file. The cat's screama brought several neighbours to tho spot, and in the excitement the cat escaped, arid it was not discovered till twoidays afterwards, when it was found to bo. suffering from terrible wounds, the result of spearing. The Inspector also stated that an information had been laid against, the offender. <•■
