Per Press Association,
INVEROARGILL, March 6
The Land Commission sat tat Gore today, when four -witnesses declaimed in. favour of the freehold, and three for the leasehold, one of the latter on the ground that land he knew in the district had doubled in value in 17 years. A Government valuer said that, allowing for loans to three-fifths of the value ot the improvements would be dangerous, as some Leaseholders had peculiar ideas of what constituted improvements., Another witness complained.that he could not divide the Crown leasehold among his children, as he thought right. Yet another said that the payment of rent to the Government for life meant that they were giving money to the Government to send Home to the moneylender.
A merchant witness said that the cause of the abnormal growth of weeds in the district was the purchase of rubbish from seed-cleaning machines at Is per bag. ;
