Moore and Casey, the former being at present the popular manager of the ftew_ Zealand Express Company in Wanganui. We understand that Mr. Jamesi Smith, settler, of Tahape, will be a ■candidate for the sea* on the Education Board, rendered vacant by the resignation! of Mr. Adams, of Patea. Mr. Smith has had a life-long experience of matters educational, and for years strenuously advocated freedom of classification and others reforms i - j-sntly ejected in our education system. He is of opinion that the syllabuj of irisfcniction should be'stil further modified in the direction of giving -the pupils a better knowledge of the Jinglish language and literature, so as to fit them nob only for the business of life, but also for the everincreasing duties and responsibilities of citizensh,.;p. The fact of has interests being identified with the newly-settled districts as well, and his work on the County Oouncd'l, should commend has candidature to the support of the coun-' .try committees, which at present are practically unrepresented on the Board. Mr. F. C. Remington was successful at the second year term examination by the Victoria College. • The building trada is particularly brisk. Some twenty places are e.'bher m course of erection or contemplated wathang a month or so. The value of suburban sections is also on the increase, and trade was never better than at the present time.
