WANGANUI J.C. WINTER MEETING.
SECOND DAY,
There -was bright sunshiny weather for the second day of the local Club's meeting,* wtoCfl' was patronised by a large, gathering of the public. There was again a rather small totalisator turnover, owing to the paucity of the cross-country classes. Only four faced the starter in the Wanganui Steeplechase, while in the Hunters' Hurdles and Final Steeplechase "only two came out. In *he big race Haydn, was pounced upon as the correct thing, btit the gallant son of Sou-wester fell at the double in front of the stand. Scallywag ran off at the entrance to the open country, but after making up his ground he ram a wonderfully game race, and was heartily cheered by the rvublio. In the Second Hack Hurdles Pangaroa fell in front of the stand, bringing down Ranui, Proctor being severely shaken. Ballarat was made a hot favourite for the Farewell Hack Handicap, but could only get third to Waimoe and Taura, the former winning comfortably despite his big weight. The •amount machined at the meeting was £12,916, as against £14,336 last year, a deficiency of £1420.
