Lett wrote, resigning hia appodntmenfc as careteker of Cook's ' Gardens. The reai^nationi waia accepted, ■ and Mr. Lett was' thanked for his pi-©mused intern* in the Gardens» . ' Public Health jj^epartment.—Agreeing to_ _ take over tihe infectious diseases ward when properly equipped. The Mayor moved that a lettjea* be sent sttatinsr that the Council bad done "all that it had been asked with , regard ijo the" furnishing! of the building, ' and asking to be relieved of all further responsibility. Gas Works Engineer.—Asking for leave ot , abs.ence for his annual holiday.—Granted, j Department of Justice.— Forwarding circular showing control of licensing districts, also* agreeing to allow prison labour to be employed in Queen'si Park. ♦Garifen Hoses.—Solicitor's opjinaon! that under the new bye-laws the Council had power to prosecute. , Veterans' Home.—From the Governor, asking, if the Council had any fund's, that they be forwarded. Otago Patriotic Fund.—From the secretary fonvardiinsr £20 for Sergeant Lockett*. The Mayor reponted! that he had, received the money -arid' had uaid it over to Mr. Locket-b, and forwarded the receipt to the decretory as requested!. , Reports.—The reports (2) of the Foreman of Works were read and received. Watering. Streette fromi River.—Report from Mr. Smithies, stating that he could!, by means of engine and pumps, at a small expenditure, water Taupo Quay and othei" streets. The reporti was adopted.
