DISOWNED.
■ . Tho Tayior-Cairingtooi Company opened their season Avith a powerful redrstk: drama entitled "The Disowned, or The 1 t>l\ London;*' There -av&s a. bumper house, and the piece avu* received Arith considerable enthusiasm.. The play is of the melodramatic older, but is enlivened by pknt.y of liomcdy, whilst th-? wt-uations are very exciting. Tiio company is undoubtedly a, strong one. even the minor parts being carefully .performed. Mr Charlie Taylor., as "Darby Dwyer," a son of Erin, is a host in himself,'and Avas greeted with roars of laughter lime- aft-er time, Avithout exaggerating or buiicsque'mg the character; he can also display much pathos when the occa.-r'on calls for it. Ella Carrhigtou took ■ the part-of "Kate Desmond," and proved herself a. f:apiible.actre:s. Mi' W. Wallington, as *'Allan Desmond," the disoAvned, Avas an attractive hero, his part suiting him nicely. Amongst, the minor characters Mr Charles Sequin as "Ginger Jim" Avas the best. cauMisg rmuh umusement by his Cockney ways. ''Boozy Bess" was) a typical East End "lydy" in the hands of Miss ;Amy Carline, and "Sal 'AAvkins" (Miss Winifred Davis) was' also a cleverly-taken part, Mr Edwin Green and Mr Ward Lyons made two characteristic villains Avithout overdoing their parts. We cannot say so much about the flunkey of Mr F. Coape. Avho" showed a tendency to caricature lather than comedy. We must not forget to mention the "Lady Norman" of Miss Marion Willis. It. is not perhaps a very important part, but Avhen these minor vuu'is are well taken it adds greatly to. tho finish of the. performance. The ; innovation of .charging half-price to ladies and children seems to haA^e been a very popular one, as the .percentage of ladies was much larger than usual. We expect that there Avill bei a second bumper house to-night.
