Borough Council.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening.

■Prtesienti. — Hbi Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs. Liffiton. Richardson, Caiman, Bridge, Horsley, Manson, May, Bell. Bignell, PeiTett, Griffiths, and Williams.

Minutes. —The minutes of the previous meeting were read and .confirmed.

Bank Book.—The bank book was laid oir the table, and showed a debit balance of £1568.

Horses.—Mr A. A. Fantham wrote stating that he would hold his usual horse fair shortly, and would then be offering for sale a splendid lot of heavy draughts suitable for aljl city works. He would be pleased; to do business with the Council. —Referred to Mr Gilmour.

Lease.—Mr W. J. Bason wrote applying for a lease at 30s .per year of the gravel pit paddock situated on the Kaikokopu Road. —Granred, .provided Mr Bason keeps fences in order.

Ruinous Buildings.—lt was resolved that the Assistant District Health Officer be em.powered to deal with ruinous buildings h( the borough. Bank.—ln consequence of the provisions of the new Municipal Corporations Act, formal resolutions in connection with, the Council's bank were passed.

Smitltey's Paddock.—Messrs H. G. Caddy W. Orman, and G. Evans, having houses in Smiley's Paddock, wrote asking the Council to lay down a temporary water service for their benefit. The Foreman of Works said that a small pipe could b laid to the head of Ingestre Street, and that this would be sufficient to supply pi'esent needs. It Mas resolved that Mr Gilrnour's suggestion be given effect to.

Magazine.—The Under-Secretary for Defence wrote informing the Council that the magazine keeper had been instructed' that ho was not to take an- more explosives into the magazine, and that notice was again given to depositors to remove them at once. —Received.
