NELSON, September 22,

At a representative meeting of citizens to-night, held to consider the Public Works Statement, resolutions were earned expressing satisfaction with the assurance that the new Post Office is to be proceeded with, and thanking Mr Graham for his action in connection with the matter, also requesting him to continue his efforts to obtain a vote for a new railway station. The meeting also expressed appreciation of the services of Messrs R. McKenzie and Colvin, M's.H.R. Mr Graham attended the meeting and delivered an address, for which he received a vote of thanks; The need of a coach road through Clarence Valley, connecting Nelson with the Hanmer {Springs and Canterbury, was urged by several speakers.

The barque Lutterworth, which left the East India Docks om 20th June, arrived to-day. Heavy storms were experienced south of fhe Line, and some damage was done. The captain reports that when 480 miles, from the English coast 10 carrier ipfigeons settled on the ship. They were fed, and next day they left, but five re-, turned at night.
