PARAKINO OR PARIKINO?

.To i;he Editor. . Sir,—ln your report of the proceedings of the Licensing Committee this* morning re packet licenses, the above name—ParaMao'—occurs several times. This is incorrect; it should bo "Parikino" (Anglice, "the bad, or dangerous, cliff") —a most appropriate name, I should say, for the clilf there is steep and slippery, and the current, deep and swift, swirls and eddies round it, making it dangerous for Maori canoes in the old days. The name "Wanganui" or "Whanganui" may be disputed as regards the spelling of same;, but there can be no doubt as to "Parikino/ 5 not "Parakino."—l am, etc., » ~ HEMI KARENA WUNU. Campbell Street, September 16, 1902.
