WHANGEREI, September 15. The New Zealand Portland Cement Company's works at Limestone Island were com- j pletely destroyed by fire, including a comparatively new plant. The damage is. estimated at £20.000. About fifty .people arcthrown out of employment. The scow Pukapuaka at the Cement Company's wharf narrowly escaped destruction, as a strong south-west gale was-blowing. NEW PLYMOUTH, September 15. An unoccupied cottage in Smart Road owned by Peter Martin, was destroyed by fire early this morning. There is probably no insurance.
