NORTH ISLAND v. SOUTH ISLAND.
COUTH ISLAND WINS BY 20 TO 14,
WELLINGTON, September 1-3. About «six' thousand people witnessed the match between the North Island and South Island teams. They were treated to an excellent exposition of football, and a most exciting contest for supremacy, the Southerners winning1 by 20 ppints to 14. It was one of the most exciting games ever seen in Wellington. The first spell was all in favour of the North Island men, of whom the Auckland contingent were the brighto particular stars, but when ends wex-e changed the Southerners swept all before them, the Canterbury section standing out in marked prominencs. At half-time the scores were.— North Island 14, South Island 6. Long, Kieman, A'sher, and Wyllie scored tries foj^he North, one beingi converted. For the South, Porteous scored a try, and Haiiper kicked pienalty goal. The Northerners dad not score in the second spell, whale the Southerner^ put <m 14 additional points. McGregor (2), Wood, and; Harper were responsible for tries, from one of which a goal was kicked.
