HAWKE'S BAY WINS BY 6 TO 3.

By Telegraph

Special to "Cliro'nicle,"

NAPIER, August 16. The second representative match between Hawke's Bay and Wanganui was played on the Recreation Ground this afternoon. Rain having fallen for several] days past, the ground was sloppy and greasy. Notwithstanding a showery afternoon, a large number of spectators rolled up to see the match. Wanganui was the slightly heavier team. The Wanganui touch-line judge was Mr L. Craig, and Mr A. Hillson acted-for Napier. The referee was Mr R. Hallamore.

The Wanganui team; consisted of Robinson,. Tregear, Thurston, Sheehan, Stedman, Braid, Dick, Hamerton, Symes, McCulloch, Prouse, Montgomery, Thompson. Morgan and Ryan. Hawke's Bay. Russell (2), McVay, Beach, Balfour, Tomlinson, Tyne, Monro, McCarthy, Kaye, Caldwell, McLemon, Carlson, Willis, Heath.

Tregear, winning the toss, played with a slight wind behind him. Hamerton kicked off. McVay returning to TVegear, who mulled, but on recovering sent the ball well down the field. Dick, following up with a good rush, placed Hawke's Bay on the defence. Russell relieved, and Robinson slipped, allowing the local men an opportunity to score. Tregear saved. Dick and Ryan now invaded Hawke's Bay ground, causing a force-down. From a mark Rcibinson had a shot at goal, failing to score. Fine forward rushes kept Hawke's Bay busy, but Russell's defence was too good. Balfour punted to Robinson, who fell on the ball. A free kick was awarded against him for hanging on to the ball. McVay took the kick, and drew first blood by scoring a goal. Hawke's Bay made things lively now for Wanganui, Thurston punting to touch. Half-time was then called.—Hawke's Bay 3, Wanganui nil.

Thompson .started the ball rolling, and play was fairly even for some time. A splendid rush by Dick, Ryan, and Symes enabled Thurston to score. Hamerton took the kick, but failed to register the major points. TheJocal men now gradually worked the play to the vistors' goal line, where Heath scored.—Hawke's Bay 6, Wanganui 3. From this out Wanganui were kept on the defence. The local team played the best game, the wot ground seempg to suit their. Wanganui were ali at sea, not being able to handle br c wet ball. Th@ teajm is not entertained, but a drag has been placed at their disposal for drives.

For Hawke's Bay the two Russells, McVay, Carlson, and Willis played well. The Wanganui men all worked bard, but wera lost on the wet ground.
