A middle-aged man named Miller, a carpenter on the railway, has been missing from here for three weeks. Diligent search has been made without result, and it is surmised that he has been drowned.
AUCKLAND, August i 6
A train car, drawn by three horses was coming down Wellesley street last night, when the brakes refused to act.
The car jumped from the track at the bottom of the hill and crashed into a steel electric tram post. The conductor, John Davis, had one foot so badly injured that it had to be amputated.
One horse was injured', and had to be destroyed.
There were few passengers, and all jumped from the car. Except one, none were badly hurt.
INULEWOOD, August 16.
Further details of the bridge accident show that twenty feet of the deck and under 'structure fell through with the engine, and the truck following fell on the ch'iver, killing him.
A boy assistant with the driver was under the truck, but Avas saved by a portion of the debris, and not seriously injured. He was much shaken, and is sufferiog from shock. ■
The deceased was a widower, with a family of six young children.
There is evidence of the grossest carele.i'sniess somewhere, as appearances show that the bridge was .totally unfit to load anything approaching to the weight of tvie engine.
An inquest will be held to-morrow.
