BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS' CONFERENCE

WELLINGTON, August 26.
The Builders' and Contractors' Conference opened this morning, Mr A. Johns, of Wellington (president), in the chair. It was decided to go through the Factories Bill, in order to give evidence before the Labour Bills Committee; also to protest against the builders' and contractors' workshops being included m the Factories Act, seeing that they are under other laws. '■',■■,»• It was decided to wait on the Premier and point out the unnecessary difficulties created for the building trade under the amending Factories Bill; also to object strongly to the passing of the provisions affecting employees in workshops and the hours of ordinary work and overtime/as these clauses clash with the arbitration award under which the trade is working.
