WAIRARAPA DEFEATS HAWKE'S BAY.

NAPIER, August 10. In the interprovincial football match, Wairarapa v. Hawke's Bay, was played on the Recreaiion Ground to-day. Heavy rain fell in the morning, and drizzling showers throughout the afternoon, making the ground very sloppy. The game resulted in a win for the visitors by 10 points to 3. The teams were very evenly matched, but the state of the weather prevented anything like brilliant play on either line. 'The visitors' backs were superior, but their forwards were beaten by the local men, who carried the ball away from the scrum and line time after time. The safe defence of Wairarapa- however, prevented a score. McGuire and •McMaster each' got a try* and E. McKenzie kicked a goal from' a mark. Walker scored, for the home team. , ,

The Hawke's Bay' team, which goes on tour on the 20th instant, will be veiy much stronger than the fifteen which met vvaifarapa.
