TAIHAPE NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

TAIHAPE, July 22. Measles have paid our town a visit lately, and strange to say, it has been adul'.s instead of children that have been laid up with1 this old fashioned malady. Three young men have just recovered from it.

Mr. R. T. Batley for one has faith in tho future of Taihape, and has added 20 stalls to his stable. This brings the number of stalls up to 30, making the stables second to none this side of Matton.

Mr. A. Nathan is having a two-storied shop and dwelling house combined built on his section opposite the Town Hall. Mr. Peacock, the 'builder, has a number of hands on, and having almost finished Mr. Ba/Jley's stables, which he had tho contract for, is now making rapid progress with Mr. N"atlhan's new shop1. Mr. J. Coogan, saddler, has let the building of a new shop to Mr. A. Williaims. Mr. Williams has the work well in. hand.

Messrs. Russell and Bignell, of Wanganui, were the successful tenderers for the erection of Mr. A. J. Hum's Hotel. I hear the price is about £1700. The section has just been cleared, and no doubt a start will soon be made by the contractors.

Messrs. Ellis Bros, and Valder have Mist completed additions to their shop. The firm intends to stock furniture in all its branches. The old storeroom will be set apart for tho furniture shop. Mr. J. P. Aldridge has secured the services of a first-class barber, and has opened a hairdressincr saloon.

A double wedding was solemnised last week at the residence of the parents of the brides, Mr. and Mrs Larry, of Lismore. Messrs. W. Gray and J. Ford were the bridegrooms, and the two eldest Miss Larrys the bridos. The service was condiicted by the Rev. Keall. of Marion. Many friends attended the wedding;, and wished the happy couples long life and happiness.
