1 Mr Fied W. Duvu), the popular business manager of this ever-welcome combination, arrived in town last night to make arrangements for the forthcoming visit here. Tho opening night is fixed for Monday next, September 24th, and the season is limited to three- nights. The initial attraction will mark a new departure for "The Pollards," us they will (leserfc the realms of comic ojjera and will produce on a scale of unusual magnificence nnd completeness Wallace's immortal work "Maritana." This will be welcome news to lovers of legitimate opera, as for years past no manager has had the pluck to tackle high-class works. And they were 'not to blame, as the craze for comic opera and musical comedy was so great that to produce the more serious works spelled ruin. tln staging "Maritana" Mr Pollard deserves every encouragement, as the present generation know very little about the , beauties of this class of work. A feature of 1 lie production will be the first appearance of n new soprano, in the person of Miss\ Marie Mueller, whp will be' seen i.n the name part.
