On the articles being handed to Mr Seiiger, Mr MclSeth (Chief Post-'; master) in a. kindly speech made reference to the good feeling which bad always existed between himself and Mr Seager, but, while regretting his departure, it was gratifying to. know that one of his staff had been selected for such an important charge. Mr Ward also, in a few fwe-11-ohosen remarks, expressed on behalf of the staff the regret telt by them all at the loss of so thoughtful v, chief. Tne officers of the Battalion met at Foster's Hotel last night for the purpose of making, a presentation to Captain Stager, o f the Guards, who is to be transferred to Auckland. LieutColonel Watt, in making the presentation of a pair of field glasses, handsomely engraved, referred to the popularity and ability of Captain Scagei- S|fcis leadership of the Guards. The other officers present'also expressed regret at his deparKii'e from amongst them, and trusted that he would not sever his interest in Volunteering while resident in another part of the colony. Captain Seager feelingly replied, and expressed his sorrow in leaving the members of the Battalion, with whom he had been so long associated. He hoped that _the Guards of the Wanganui Battalion would always uphold the high standard of efficiency nfc present enjoyed .by them. Captain Soger's health having been drank with musical honours, the meeting adjourned.
