SELF WORSHIP.

TO THB EDITOB. Sir, — I, and I think everyone r el's£ who read it, was disgusted with the spite, venom and falsity of a letter whieh appeared in the Herald of Wednesday evening ovar the nom de plume of "Shawm." The reason for this effusion is, so it would appear, because the Chronicle has had something i to say in favour of Mr Carson as a candi- ' date for the House. "Shawm" admits reading your article of Saturday hist, in j which you stated that, as usual, Mr Carson had completely severed his editorial connection with the paper during the contest, and that being so must be well aware Chat he is not responsible for what appears in your columns. Yet, ' knowing this, "Shawm" says Mr Carson has most "ungenerously "belittled and disparaged his opponent, while at the same time positively smearing himself wth unearned praise." This is nothing more nor less than a deliberate aiid wilful falsehood. Mr Carson, has never attempted in the slightest degree to belittle his opponent, a fact which I believe even Mr Willis himself Will admit, ' while the only thing derogatory to Mr Willis that I have read in the Chronicl-*, ■ and which I take it Mr Carson, was in no j way responsible for, was the Herald's opinions of Mr Willis, which you naturally reprinted fpr the lien'efit of the electors. I wonder if "Shawn" ever took exception to; the Herald's laudations of the late 5.V' John Ballance, when that gentleman was a candidate for the House and editor of the Herald! — I am, etc., FIGHT FAIR. Wauganui, 30th November.
