Bailey was charged with unlawfully carnally knowing a Maori gill nanied Marata, who was under the age of consent, at Kauangaroa, on the 23rd of Oc- | tober. I Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was defended by Mr Treadwell. Mr jF/tzherbert conducted the case for tjie "prosecution, and detailed the circum stances leading jjjj to the filleged committal of the crime, Tho following jury were empanneUed :.— H. A.
