COPT OF PETITION.

Auckland, Febnwry 26, 1891. To the Rovd., the ohauman of to Wesleyan Conference, T Sib,- You will doubtless be aware that in the month of July last, my brother, Mr John Probert died in this city, and that he bequeathed a largo sum of money and property to the Wesleyan body, whilst leaving his. near relatives in poor circums ances. The terms of the will wfw not a I coneistent with his conduct to Ins relatives during his life time, and when you come to reflect upon the circumstances under which he nmde his will, yod will probably come to tho corc'usion that ; had he bean more deliberate in taking that step the provisions of his will would have been different to what they are. My brother, it appears, drove eff making his will till a few weeks before bis death, at a time when he was buffering acutsly with Ia grippe, which afterwards caused his death, at the age of seventy-five yosrs, and when he was approaching his dotago by the provisions of his will yon are doubtless awara that I am to te cv« the^mallsuui of JEIOO, being all in tho world, that I hate to maintain myself- for the rost of my days ; beiDg 70 yeare of agp, I am now past work. Th-s mtei c ton .£IOO will probably amount to £5 per annum, which is not fcufiicoDt to tesp me from having to appeal to Hie Clnntable Aid Board- 1 trust that your august body may in its goodness and sense o! jmtico see' its way to affording me some assistance to enable me to eke cut. the remainder of my existence with some degree of comfort, ar.d I shall be ever grateful. As to reference for character, I can rerer you to Mr Heron, builder; Mr Bust, Mount Rookoll; and Mr John McElwain. —I hava the honcur to ruiuin, air, your most obedient servant, William Gadsbt Probbrt.
