A paper on tides was submitted to the Harbour Bj-ii<l to-duy, from which ( it appears tint, as the result of the Board's operations, high water at Duuodin has been accalerated by 10 minutes, I and thore is an increase of rise in the tide of four inches. As ouly one of the surburban boroughs agreed to contribute its shnro towards getting the report on the drainage ! scheme for the city and surburbs, tbe drainage conference was dissolved, and ! probably the city will go in for the scheme itsolf. Dunedin, December 4. Mr J. F. M. Fraserhas accepted the posit.'on of local solicitor under the Advauceß to Settlers' Act. Mr E. B. Cargill has not beon appointed valuer. It ia understood that Mr McKerrow, of Fampden, will bo one for Otago, The Hon. J. G. Ward left for W ellin £- ton to day in the Talune. He intends going on to Auckland to be present at the opening of the Kotonu railway.
