A large number of horses were working at Flemington this morning, and of those engaged in the Newmarket Handicap Radoo did the best gallop, winding up the six furlongs in lmm 16f sees. Bungebah occupied lmin 174 sees, Marvel lmin 18sec, Conceit and Matador lmin 18£sec, Bendigo and Aster lmin 19sec. Utter moved very nicely in her gallop, which took lmin 20sec. Havilah scampered over five furlongs in lmin 6isec. Piecrust i finished in front of Albina, Stromboli, and Albemarle, at the end of a six furlong flutter, which was traversed in lmin 20 soc, but tho latter had a big weight up, Victor Hugo again defeated Too Soon over six furlongs in lmin 21sec on the tan, the latter pulling up terribly lame. Carbine eclipsed Megaphone over a mile and a half, negotiated in 2min 49 sec. Crown Jewel and Gibraltar went a strong mile and a half, the former finishing well. Merriment galloped a mile on the tan in lmin 530)sec. Rivulet was beaten by both Bengal and Syracuse in a six furlong spin, covered in lmin 22sec. Fernando is sM!I hardening for the Newmarket Handicap, and 100 to 6 is freely taken. Later. At Caulfield this morning, Cooramin and Investigator each ran six furlongs in lmin 18 a see. Churchill did the same distance in lmin 21bec. The betting is 4 to 1 Bungebah (taken and offered) ; 100 to 9 Churchill j 100 to 7 Fernando, Merriment, and Pygmalion (taken) ; 100 to 5 Wild Rose, Teksum, Ginger, Newton, Cooramin, Conceit, Bendigo, and Prattler (offered). The following wagers have been, laid : —1500 to 45 Matador, 1000 to 35 Vengeance, 1000 to 30 Radoo and Greygown, 1000 to 20 Gaudy. For the Cup— looo to 180 Megaphone, 1000 to 100 Crown Jewel.
