DEATH OF MAJOR PAUL.
(rER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, July 12. Major Paul died suddenly last night between ten and eleven o'clock, at the Northern Club. The deceased gentleman arrived by the Penguin from Wellington yesterday morning, en route for vVaiwera, in the hopes that a course of baths would afford him relief from ; asthma. Ho was staying at the Club,' and on retiring to his room last evening desired the attendant to bring him a basin of hot water, with the intention of inhaling the fumes. The act of inhalation had affected his lungs, and finding that something had gone wrong he opened the door to call for assistance, and fell forward on his face in the hall, dying instantaneously. Drs Munroe and Honeyman happened to bo in the Club at the time, and their services were invoked, but in vain. He burst a bloodvessel.and died of internal hcermorrhage. The deceased gentleman was formerly in the 65th Regimenc. He subsequently settled in Wellington, and on the retire- i ment of Dr Greenwood he was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives,but subsequently resigned.
