February 26. The Customs duties collected here for the week ending to-day amount to £3546. The result of the 24 hours' go-as-you-please match between Croft and Smith was, at 2.80 this afternoon— Croft, 87 miles and a few laps ; Smith, 83 miles. Murdoch, the captain of the Australian Eleven, has written a strong letter to the editor of the Evening Mail, in answer to the paragraph which appeared in the Nelson papers commenting on the conduct of the Australians in not acknowledging the cheers given for them. The steamer Huia did not make an excursion to the Terawhiti to-day, in consequence of the unfavourable state of the weather. She will go to-morrow, weather permitting.
