WELLINGTON.
June 12. Tho construction of the new Railway Station on the reclaimed land is making steady progress. There are at present only twelve hands on. It is to be finished in six months. The Thorndon Baths Company declare a dividend of ten per cent for the last current year. It is understood that the New Plymonth tenderer • is the lowest for the Waiugongora railway contract, Greymouth second, Wellington tenders being much higher. The lowest tender of all was thrown out, being informal, A mathematical master for the Wellington College is advertised for, at £350 per annum, and 10s capitation allowance. Another public trial of Mereweather's steam fire-engine took place this afternoon. The result was highly satisfactory. The new, Bteam fire engine was tried on the reclaimed land this afternoon. It pumped its own water out of the harbor, and throw a stream from an
inch and a quarter nozzle over a hundred fee high — a good deal higher than the Waterworks one. They then tried two streams each from the steam engine, and Waterworks, and that again was in favor of the engine. The engine was elos9 alongside the breastwork. £600 is the price. There is some talk about the Corporation buvina it.
