LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Monday, 16th October, 1876. OHINEMURI AGRICULTURAL LEASES. The Hon. Mr. Ngatata asked the Hon. Colonia

Secretary, To what extent, if at all, the Ohinemuri Gold Field Agricultural Leases Validation Act will affect lands owned by Natives (within the boundaries of the Ohinemuri G-old [Fields) who have not signed the deed of cession to the G-overnment, part of which land has passed the Native Land Court, and for which the Natives hold certificates of title, and for other portions whereof applications for hearing have been sent in ? The lion. Dr. Pollen said it was impossible for him, without more particular knowledge than he possessed, to give the honorable gentleman the information he would desire to give him. But he had caused inquiry to be made whether there were any Natives holding land under certificates of title within the block who had not signed the deed of cession; and he would take care that, if there were any cases of that kind, the necessary protection should be afforded to the Natives.
