Condition of Soldier. The condition of the soldier, Richard Townsend Chorley, who was admitted to the Wellington Hospital on May 4 with a .22 bullet wound in his abdomen, was stated at the hospital last night as “showing no change—not so well.” Workman Electrocuted. A 3000-volt shock from a transformer, on which he was working at an air station in Marlborough on Sunday, caused the death of Mr Richard Reid, a Public Works linesman. Deceased was a married man, with four children, residing at Riccarton. He was 53 years of age. Deferred Maintenance. A resolution expressing dissatisfaction with aspects of the Government’s scheme of deferred maintenance expenditure on farms was passed at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of.the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. The principal objection raised was the point that tax free money set aside for maintenance did not bear interest. Meat Pool Levies. A resolution urging that further payments into the meat pool should cease carried at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. It was stated that the meat pool had grown to about £34 millions and it was contended that there should not be further levies. End of Waterside Dispute. Work started again yesterday on the three ships involved in the waterfront dispute at Auckland. Over the weekend. two of the ships had been idle during the day shifts since shortly after 10 o’clock on Saturday morning, and the third since 5 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. The causes of the dispute, which arose over the replacement of union men who wanted Saturday off, are being invstigated. Chairman’s Remuneration The remuneration paid the chairman lof the Wairarapa Primary Production Council (Mr. R. W. Kebbell) was the subject of a question asked t by Mr. H. J. Heckler at a meeting' of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. Mr. Heckler said in some quarters there was an idea that Mr. Kebbell received £l2 a week. Mr. R. H. Brewerton, a member of the Primary Production Council said Mr. Kebbell received £650 per year out of which came Mr. Kebbell s travelling expenses, board, office rent and the expenses of office staff In the sum total, Mr. Kebbell finished up out of pocket. School Jubilee. Among thos who attended the 50th jubilee celebrations of the Mangamutu School, Pahiatua, last week-end, were the following teachers: —Miss Burge, 1908 to 1927; Mr Bringans, headmaster, 1910-1919; and Mrs Hughan, 1924-27. The first mistress, Mrs Holmes (nee Miss Hall) sent an apology for absence. At the banquet, which was attended by 330 people, the following were among those present: Mesdames McFarlane, J. Little, F. Stokes, Messrs D. O’Brien, J. McArdle, and George Brown. The toast to expupils was proposed by a present scholar, James Beazley.’ An old settler, Mrs Taylor, donated two prizes for the ex-pupils, man and woman, present at the banquet who had the largest family. The woman’s prize went to Mrs Murphy, and the man’s to a Maori, Mr Takarangi.
