WELLINGTON RURAL LAND SALES COMMITTEE | RESIGNATION AS PROTEST I DISCRIMINATION ALLEGED Reference to the Wellington District Rural Land Sales'Committee carrying on its activities without a chairman was made at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. The chairman, Mr T. Jordan, it was stated, had resigned. “When the Land Sales Committees were formed, it will be recalled that the Wellington District Rural Committee consisted of two farmers with a barrister as chairman,” said Mr L. T. Daniell. “But as a protest against discriminating treatment, the chairman resigned many weeks ago and has not been replaced. The two farmer members are making and promulgating the decisions. Either the Sales Committee is an unnecessary bit of bureaucracy and should be abolished or it should be maintained as originally constituted and a chairman, with the necessary legal training appointed at once to the committee.” The silence of Cabinet in the matter was all the more intriguing, said Mr Daniell, because of a recurring rumour regarding an intended appointment. He thought Cabinet should make a statement on the subject.
