VOTING PROCEDURE

LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS. CROSS AGAINST THE NAMES SELECTED. The attention of electors is drawn to the method of voting at the local body elections on Saturday. The Masterton Borough Returning Officer, Mr. G. T. O’Hara Smith, wishes to emphasise that voting is by a cross against the name selected and not by striking out a name, as is the case with Parliamentary elections. Any person who has reason to believe that his name should be on the roll may vote by declaration. There is no provision for absentee or postal voting. Voters are not required to vote for the full number of vacancies to be filled on any particular body unless they desire to do so, but voting for a number in excess of the vacancies to be filled renders the ballot papers invalid. The polling hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
