FEATHERSTON

UNITED SERVICE GATHERING AT TOWN HALL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Town Hall was filled for the United service held last night. The speaker was the Rev. J. M. McKenzie, who gave a very interesting address on China, India and the New Hebrides. His lecture was illustrated by lantern slides. The singing was led by the combined choirs. Poor Shooting Day, Owing to the weather conditions, Saturday was a poor day for shooters. Several sportsmen reported that it had been a very poor season, Patriotic Society’s Dance. There was a large attendance at the Patriotic Society’s weekly dance in the Town Hall on Saturday evening. The music was supplied by the Swingsters, and extras were played by Misses D. Scott and C. Saba. Mr. C. B. Cheer was M.C. A novelty dance was won by Miss Davis and partner and a competition was won by Miss Shirley Goodin. Miss A. Johnson was hostess. Euchre Party and Dance. A euchre party and dance will be held in the Kaiwaiwai Hall tonight. The popularity of these gatherings is growing. College Classes Classes open to civilians will be held at the Featherston District High School on Monday and Thursday evenings, under the direction of Wairarapa College. The subjects will include woodwork, motor theory, wool classing, art, book-keeping, typewriting, boot repairing and any others for which there are sufficient students. The College Principal, Mr G. G. Hancox, will be in attendance at the school at 7 p.m. on Thursday to give information and enrol students. COSY THEATRE DOUBLE PROGRAMME. On Wednesday night, two excellent pictures will be shown. The brilliant comedy-drama, “Miss Annie Rooney,” features Shirley Temple, William Gargan, Guy Kibbee and Gloria Holden. “Maisie Gets her Man” is an outstanding comedy with Ann Southern and Red Skelton taking the principal parts.
