HANGED IN PUBLIC
CONDEMNED WAR CRIMINALS AT KHARKOV THREE GERMANS AND ONE RUSSIAN. CROWD OF 40,000 ROARS APPROVAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 20. •The three Germans and one Russian found guilty of taking part in the mass murder of Kharkov civilians were hanged in the public square at Kharkov yesterday morning. A British United Press correspondent says that 40,000 witnessed the hanging in the snow-covered square. The condemned men arrived in four motor-lorries which pulled up under four newly-built gallows. As -the lor-, ries moved away, the four men were left hanging in the air. Their legs twitched for two minutes, after which the crowd surged forward, roaring their approval.
