MUFTI ALLOWANCE
A GRADUATED SCALE > BASED ON LENGTH OF SERVICE. OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT.’ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A graduated scale of mufti allowance for service men on discharge from the armed forces, based on length of service, with a maximum payment of £25, was announced last night by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. He said that, following the decision by War Cabinet that the mufti allowances should be increased, consideration should be given to the conditions of payment, and it had now been decided that the new scale should be as follows: —
Mr Fraser said that it had also been decided that the new scale should apply irrespective of whether the qualifying service xvas performed in New Zealand or overseas, and that it should be retrospective in effect. Members of the forces who have already received an allowance and are entitled to an increase should apply in writing to their last paying authority, i.e., in the case of soldiers who are finally discharged from the 2nd N.Z.E.F., to the Director of Base Records, Wellington; and in the case of soldiers who are discharged from home service units to the District Paymaster and Accountant, New Zealand Military Forces, Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch, as the case may be. When applying soldiers should clearly state their number, full name and present address. Applications will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible, and in the order in which they are received.
