The funeral of the late Mr W. S. Todd took place in Masterton on Saturday afternoon, the Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich conducting the service at the chapel and that at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs. G. Hyde, A. Chapman, H. Greathead, L. HouL brooke, H. Dixon and J. Cane. The death occurred in Wellington oil Saturday of Mr A. Stanley Gyles, governing head of the firm of A. Gyles and Sons, Ltd., commercial printers. Mr Gyles, who was in his fifty-eighth year, was born in Wellington, the son of the late Mr A. Gyles, who founded the printing business which still bears his name. After leaving Te Aro School, Mr A. S. Gyles joined the printing establishment. Bishop Baddeley and the other members of the Melanesian Mission who have remained in the Solomon Islands, are well, according to a cablegram received by Archbishop WestWatson, Christchurch, from Major Robinson, secretary to the Melanesian Mission in Sydney. .Major Robinson stated that a radio message to this effect had been received from the Resident Commissioner of the Solomon Islands. Mr R. S. Gerrand, Church Street, Masterton, had the misfortune to sustain a badly-gashed forehead as the result of a bicycle accident at the weekend. He had just reached his residence from a ride in the country and when alighting from his bicycle the fork of the machine snapped, precipitating him head foremost on to the kerbing of the footpath. Mr Gerrand was taken to Dr Rich’s surgery and it was found necessary to put thirteen stitches in the wound.
