CARTERTON
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Parkvale Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs D. N. Adams. Mrs A. Elkins was elected garment secretary. The resignation of Miss A.’ Franks as Press reporter was accepted. Miss J. Phelps was appointed to the position. One new member, Miss M. Lukies, was elected. A most interesting demonstration on papier mache work was given by members of the Matarawa-Dalefield Institute. They were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. Six quilts made by members were on display. A debate, Town v. Country, was held, the latter being judged the winners. The teams were as follows: —Country, Mrs F. Denbee, Misses J. Phelps and G, Lukies. Town, Mesdames Fisher, N. Peacock and Miss H. McKinnon. The competition, a floral “V,” which was judged by Matarawa-Dalefield members, resulted as follows: Mrs N. McKinnon 1, Mrs N. Peacock 2, Mrs F. Denbee 3.

Hurley, G. ) Udy, Herod, Hemi, F. Fitzgerald, = Hawke, Groube, Stubbs, Hood, Stringfellow, O’Neale Conwell Parker (2), , Warrington. • A new football ground has been provided in Carterton in a paddock at the rear of the Royal Oak Hotel and the first game will be played on it tomorrow between Carterton and Red 5 Star A grade teams. The ground has. been fitted up with a dressing shed and hot and cold water showers. The Carterton A team to play Masterton will be selected from the following:— Stubbs, Rayner, Phillips, Humphries, McPhee (2), Parker (2), Berry, Walsh, Workman, Catt, Goodin, Smith, Aplin Lenihan, O’Berg and Quinn. Hockey. The Hinemoa senior ladies’ team to play Kia Ora at Masterton will be:— M. Parker, T. Compton, B. Malcholm, D. Dunce, K. Te Tau, V. Ward, Z. Ward, F. Jensen, I. Parker, A. Sdott, ( and Mrs Playle. Patriotic Dance. A dance will be held at the Parkvale Hall on Saturday night. As the pnoceeds are to be used for patriotic purposes there is sure to be a large attendance. Cards for which . good ■ prizes are offered will be played in the supper room. The music will be supplied by Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra.
Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Parkvale on Sunday next at 2 p.m. REGENT THEATRE “MAN HUNT.” Tonight there will be shown the sensational picture, “Man Hunt,” in which George Sanders, Walter Pidgeon, Joan Bennett and John Caradin have the leading roles.
