NO MYSTIFICATION
REGARDING MACARTHUR’S AUTHORITY NEW ZEALAND PREMIER'S STATEMENT. NOTHING KNOWN OF MR NASH GOING TO LONDON. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, April 19. “There is no mystification regarding the appointment of General MacArthur,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, at Whangarei tonight. The position had been amply clarified by the Australian Prime Minister.
"Negotiations have been proceeding for some time between Washington, London, Canberra, and Wellington,” said Mr Fraser, “and decisions will be announced very shortly from Washington regarding the various Pacific commands.”
Referring to the cabled statement by Mr R. G. Casey, Minister of State in the Middle East, that Mr Nash and Dr. Evatt will soon be going to London, the Prime Minister said that he had no knowledge of Mr Nash going to London. “There is no doubt that the most urgently important place for New Zealand to bo represented is in Washington. We arc represented in London by the High Commissioner, Mr Jordan,” said Mr Fraser.
