PATRIOTIC EFFORT

ENJOYABLE GAMES NIGHT. GATHERING AT ALFREDTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly “games night” conducted by the AlfredtonPatriotic'Society was held on Saturday evening when there was a good attendance. The winners at euchre were: Ladies, Mrs Youell; men, Mr H. Burch. The aggregate for three successive nights resulted: Ladies, Mrs L. Cooper (trophy presented by Mr Stan Smith); men, Mr H. Burch (trophy presented by Mrs T. Smith). The ladies’ consolation prize was presented by Mr H. Burch and won by Mrs Dickens. The men’s consolation prize which was won by Mr R. Seymour, was presented by Mrs Algie. A man’s pullover knitted and donated by Mrs R. Low for competition, was won by Mr O. D. Walker. A side of bacon donated by Mr D. Smith was won by Mrs George. A hack was donated by Mr G. Higginson to be sold on behalf of the patriotic fund. Donations were received from Mr Howard £1 and Mr G. Lewis £2O.

Mr Kebbell referred to the necessity for collecting ergot. The following goods were received and auctioned by Mr R. Kebbell: Vegetables from Mr H. Percy realised 21s; lettuces from Mrs Dickens 2s; rhubarb from Mrs V. Payne, Is 6d; flowers from Mrs F. McLean 2s; dahlias from Mrs Dickens 2s; hydrangeas from Mrs R. W. Kebbell; four ducks and one rooster from Mr H, Burch realised 18s. The total for the evening was £29 15s. Mrs M. Stone-Wigg presented the certificates to the successful members of the First Aid Class.
